After a month or so of playing around with different themes for the site, I’ve finally settled on this one. What do you reckon?
A quick guided tour:
- The Theme - I’m using the K2 theme as a base, with custom rss and header image. The styling might change ever so slightly as I receive feedback (and as I notice little foibles between browsers cropping up) but this is the basic look.
- AJAX Search - K2 comes with an AJAX search function. Just type in the box over there and it will “search-as-you-type”. In theory! I had this working fine on my development site, but as soon as I went live it stopped working. The normal “press Enter” search works fine though.
- Blogroll - I’ve finally put together my blogroll, as can be seen on the right hand side.
- Minimal Advertising - I’ve scaled back the ads on my site. They were becoming distracting and were badly placed in the first place. They may come back over time, but for now they’re a distant memory.
- Tag Cloud - I like tag clouds. They give a good indication of what a site is about about, as well as providing a handy navigation tool. Ignore the fact that at the moment “Christmas” is thrust forward by the cloud (it was a popular post though!)
I’m working with some exciting Wordpress plugins to add some more features, but I’m treading carefully after a couple broke my WP installation. I’ll write up any major improvements, but hopefully they’ll be obvious to see.
I’ll be interested to see what you think of the new look. If you have any suggestions, or ideas for improving the site then please let me know in the comments.
