Brian Krebs has reported that a quick search in Google Calendar for public events with the keyword “password” has turned up some surprising results. People are posting passwords and user names under event details and then unknowingly sharing these details with the rest of the world! Other events Brian highlights that might be sensitive are holiday dates (nice to know when the house is empty) and scheduled computer maintenance at various companies (ripe for a little social engineering). Although Google Calendar is an excellent (and free!) application, it is open for abuse if users are unaware of the implications of adding public events, especially if they are syncing their calendar from another source.
