Twitter On

Twitter

I created a Twitter account well over a year ago, and never really found a use for it.  I’ve been reading lots and lots about Twitter over the last couple of weeks and it seems to be this year’s Facebook (in terms of popularity and breakthrough to the mainstream), so I’ve resurrected it and added a Twitter gadget to the sidebar.  Whether it will stay is yet to be seen, and the number of “tweets” may be inconsistent, but I’ll see how it goes.  I use the Facebook status a fair bit so I don’t know if this will replace it or complement it.

One thing I was impressed with is the way it converted a URL I sent to it into a tinyurl - clever!

Downtime

DowntimeDue to a hosting server problem and an error in my .htaccess file, the site was down for a few hours.  Apologies to those trying to access the site in that time but, as you can see, we are now back up and running ok.

UPDATE: We are still experiencing problems with the .htaccess file - something is screwing with the formatting of the site (as you can see).  Please bear with me!

UPDATE 2: Thanks to the great support team at Media72, the site is back from the dead.

About This Site: Past, Present and Future

When I first started this site it was part-personal and part-professional, and I chose a host that had Ruby-on-Rails (RoR) support included because I had decided to teach myself how to code with it.  IT soon became obvious that the time I had available to study RoR was becoming less and less, and the site involved into a more general blog site, running WordPress.  I was using a rather standard theme, with a few modifications, and it worked ok.  I added Feedburner, AdSense and a couple of other ad networks and the site has become a bit of a mish-mash, with no real purpose.

As you may know, I started to heavily report on Doctor Who and Torchwood news, and this brought in a decent amount of traffic, but the site was making even less sense as a result.  The address of the site, along with its look and accompanying content, diluted the Doctor Who content, and I believe this left readers confused.

Therefore, I am looking to shortly relaunch my site and am currently working on a new theme which will look more professional and less cluttered.  It is based on the K2 theme but with some modifications for relevant ad space and other tweaks.  I’m hoping to go live with it on Monday but it won’t be the finished article.

A number of people have subscribed to my blog specifically to receive Doctor Who/Torchwood news.  Apologies for leading you on slightly (albeit unintentionally) but I will shortly be launching a brand new Doctor Who and Torchwood site.  I am looking forward to seeing it come to fruition, plus there are a number of other site ideas I have so watch this space.
