Dara O’Briain - Tall, Funny, Irish Fella

Dara O\'BriainWe went to see Dara O’Briain live last night.  My throat still hurts this morning from all the laughing - he was brilliant.  If you don’t know who he is, he’s the tall, bald guy that hosts “Mock The Week” on BBC2.

His style of humour is observational with a couple of anecdotes thrown in, but he improvises a good 30-45 minutes of material just by talking to the audience.  He doesn’t pick on the audience like some comics do.  Instead he finds out what they do for a living and talks them up and somehow makes them “heroes” for the next 2½ hours.

Ok, he swears a bit, but I never find him crude or offensive.  He seems to be able to talk non-stop and barely breaks into a sweat.  And the stories he tells are embellished with details and relevant meanderings that never leaves the audience bored.

Check out the video clips below for an example of his fine work!

So Boris Won!

Yes, that’s right.  Red Ken has been ousted from his Capital Throne and replaced by Boris Johnson, a cross between an old English Sheepdog, a drunken uncle and a village idiot (and the eyebrow of Bear in the Big Blue House.

To be honest, I haven’t followed the politics of the election so I’m not going to mention their policies or relative merits.  All I’m going to do is post this highly amusing clip of Boris doing what he’s best at doing - talking.

So Boris Won!

Twitter

I created a Twitter account well over a year ago, and never really found a use for it.  I’ve been reading lots and lots about Twitter over the last couple of weeks and it seems to be this year’s Facebook (in terms of popularity and breakthrough to the mainstream), so I’ve resurrected it and added a Twitter gadget to the sidebar.  Whether it will stay is yet to be seen, and the number of “tweets” may be inconsistent, but I’ll see how it goes.  I use the Facebook status a fair bit so I don’t know if this will replace it or complement it.

One thing I was impressed with is the way it converted a URL I sent to it into a tinyurl - clever!
