It has been confirmed that the latest update to the best browser on the market, Firefox, will be launched on Tuesday June 17th. Mozilla are attempting to break a world record on that day by setting the record for the most software downloads in 24 hours.
For those of you that don’t yet use Firefox, you should! Not only is Firefox 3 is faster and more stable than both its previous incarnations and its competitors, it also adds a host of extra features to make browsing easier than ever before.
The address bar has been revamped and includes keyword search of your history from within the address bar - simply type a word associated with the site your looking for and it will bring up the entries from your history that contain that word! It even places sites more often visited at the top. The bar also has a star to the right of it - click on this and it add the current page to your favourites. Click on it again and you can edit the bookmark, put it in a different folder and even add tags to it!
ReadWriteWeb lists further features:
- Standard themes that are consistent with the native UI of your Operating System (Windows, Mac, Linux)
- Revamped bookmark manager
- New Icons
- One-click site information
- Secure add-on updates
- Vista Parental Controls
- Revamped password management
- Full page zoom
- Scrolling Tabs
- tons more!
In my experience of using the betas and release clients in the past few months, I’ve found Firefox 3 to be fantastic. I only wish more of the plugins worked for FF3, but I’m sure that will change once the official released date has passed.
