The Doctor Angers Christian Groups

The plot of the imminent Christmas episode of Doctor Who, “Voyage of the Damned” has been criticised by Christian groups.  In the episode, to be shown on Christmas Day, the Doctor saves a spaceship from a meteor storm and has to persuade the passengers that he has magical powers.  However, the show has been accused of portraying the Doctor, played by David Tennant, as the new Messiah and mocking religious iconography in the process.

The use of these paralells has been defended by writer Russel T Davies by explaining that “the Doctor is a proper saviour. He saves the world through the power of his mind and passion.”

“Voyage of the Damned” will be broadcast on Christmas Day at 6:50pm on BBC One.

Tennant Denies Doctor Who Exit

Current Doctor, David Tennant has denied rumours that he is leaving the show.  Last week it was speculated that Tennant was quitting the show after co-star Catherine Tate let slip that he had decided to go.  However, it appears that Tate got it all wrong.

Tennant has said of the disclosure “She said I was leaving, which was a decision I haven’t made yet.  Maybe she’s made it for me, but I’m going to keep people guessing for as long as possible.”

He has also revealed that he is filming four specials.  I’m guessing that these are the three specials already announced, plus a Christmas 2008 special!
